If I won’t serve it to my family, I won’t serve it to anyone, this simple principle is what has led to the growth and expansion of J&F Seafood to where it is today. Leo Todaro is the patriarch of the family operated J&F seafood, over 30 years ago he started the company by sourcing responsible and sustainable fisheries in Canada and around the globe for the Canadian market. He always traveled directly to the source to survey their operations and hand select partners that he believed would provide the quality and accountability that he demanded. When product arrived, he would manually inspect every shipment before distribution a process that is still done manually to this day at J&F Seafood.
Almost 20 years ago Joe Todaro joined the family business and helped shift their focus from supplying to wholesalers to supplying directly to retailers which helped solidify the J&F Seafood name within the industry. When his brother Frank joined the team 10 years later, they knew it was time to step out and establish their own retail brand. They understood that consumers were looking for a brand that aligned with their personal commitment to buying only ethically and sustainably sourced seafood and they knew they needed to speak directly to the consumer in order to build that trust. This was the catalyst for the creation of the Rock harbour Seafood and OceanCharm brands.
In 2023 we moved our operations into our new 20,000 sq/ft building to better serve our growing client partners. The new facility features multiple loading/shipping docks, with 20,000 sq/ft of temperature controlled cold storage, increased sorting/packing bays and our state-of-the-art multi-vac tray packager that stores fresh fish longer.
